CONTEMPORARY DANCE TECHNIQUE

Basic focus will be on participants personal body alignment. Class will start with 20 minutes warm up based on small inner dance to basic release technique exercises. Participants will focus on their own body posture by exercising somatic principles combined with exercises from experiental anatomy. After warm up we will put attention to train the spatial awareness (basic gazing, walking back and front, spiral running) and with special orientation to build understanding how to use floor in effective way (rolling, sliding, falling without injuries, going smoothly into the floor and up...). Participants will also get some written material on anatomy to get better visual understanding of how structure (bones) and “meat” (muscles) support each other. Gradually focus will move from personal body alignment to observation, sensation and understanding of “others” bodies. Shifting awareness on how to relate with others.. I will introduce basic principles of contact improvisation, with special focus on “light” partnering without implying weight. The range of possible connections between participants will go from mere sensation based contact (eye contact, closed eyes contact, following the center..) to more explicit use of touch and sharing “one body” experience. Participants will also learn from active imagination. Shifting their awareness from relationship (and possible reactions) on how to relate to your inner “small talk”. How to bring daily emotions, sensations, experiences and thoughts into disciplined training and use it effectively.  Participants will now focus on expressing personal states. Where am I today? Who am I and can I show myself without fear of being hurt, neglected? How do I dance my weaknesses? How can my fragility become strenght?  The range of exercises will go from working in pairs, detecting each others movement habits, improvising solos to emphatetic shadowing / repeating of movement seqeunces.
